The course

More peace during conflict, without waiting for the other person to change.

A short, self-paced course for anyone who keeps having the same fight with the same person. Partner, parent, ex, friend, coworker.

Michael Vargas

I know why the fight still gets to you.

It's not that you don't understand what's happening. You do. It's that in the moment, understanding doesn't help. You've probably told yourself some version of this:

I keep the peace and swallow it. And the resentment keeps building.

Everything they say lands as an attack. We can't talk without it turning into a fight.

I can see exactly what I'm doing wrong. I still can't stop it in the moment.

I go quiet and shut down. Then it all comes out later, in one big blow-up.

I say things I regret, then replay it for days.

I've read the books. I've done the breathing. Then they say one thing and it's gone.

Here's the truth.

  • You don't need them to change first.
  • You don't need to win the argument.
  • You don't need to get better at holding it in.
  • You don't need another book telling you to stay calm.

You need a way to respond when it starts. Something you can actually do in the moment, when your chest is tight and the words are already on their way.

That's what The course gives you.

What this is

The course is a short, self-paced mini course that walks you through exactly what my clients and I do to feel more calm in conflict, step by step, so you can do it too. It's built for any conflict, including the ones with your partner, parent, ex, friend or coworker. The method is the same.

  • No waiting for them to do the work first
  • No therapy jargon and no long lectures
  • Just a method you can use the next time it starts, and a written plan for it

The method you'll learn

The Emotional Resilience Cycle

Most advice tells you to stay calm. It doesn't tell you how. The Emotional Resilience Cycle is the how. It's the same five steps I use with my clients and in my own relationships.

1 2 3 4 5 Meta-cognitionSeeing your own thoughts from the outsideEmotionalregulationManaging thecharge so itdoesn’t drive youRepetitionSharpen the insidewhile engagingthe outsideReprogrammingChanging the storyunderneathExecutionNow go do thehard thing

Then around again, a little steadier each time.

You don't build resilience by enduring more.
You build it by changing what's running underneath.

What you'll learn

  • Welcome: pick the one situation that gives you the most conflict and get honest about what actually happens when it starts.
  • Outcomes: know exactly what "better" looks like for you, so you can tell when it's working.
  • The science: what happens in your body and mind in the first seconds of a conflict, and why you react before you've decided to.
  • The Emotional Resilience Cycle: the five steps, in order, so you have something to run instead of something to survive.
  • The tools: every tool in one video, what each one is for, and when to reach for it mid-conflict.
  • The main exercise and action plan: put all the tools together to work through your conflict, and leave with a written plan for the next time it starts.
  • The deeper root: what's underneath the emotion that's causing the pain, and what to change so you stop having the same reaction.

What you'll get

  • 7 video lessons, watch in order or come back to any one
  • The slides from every lesson as PDFs you keep
  • An action plan worksheet, filled in by the time you finish
  • Lifetime access

I'm not someone who never gets triggered.

I used to either get defensive or shut down during conflict, and I didn't want anyone to have that type of power over me. Things still bother me, since I'm human. But now I feel much more peace and control during conflict. I react a lot less, and I respond a lot more.

I have a master's in clinical psychology, I've coached, facilitated and trained thousands of clients, and I've worked with dozens of companies. The method in this course is the one I had to learn for myself first, in my own relationships, not in a classroom.

That's why I teach it in plain words, in the order you'd actually use it, with nothing you have to decode.

What people are saying

From people who have done this work with me:

I know my worth again, I had lost it for a while. Now instead of reacting and shutting people down, I can take a pause, breathe, and ask more questions. I feel happier, lighter, and I'm showing up as a better version of myself.
- Daisy
I was feeling stuck and less confident. The tools really helped me slow down and understand how I was feeling. I realized I was holding myself back.
- Maura

You can't control what they do the next time it starts. You can control what you do. That part has always been yours. This course shows you how to use it.
